Street Science Boxing is a word play on the sport of boxing’s nickname, “The Sweet Science.”

Many years ago, one of my main coaches- and completely crazy friend- Joe Ancona, explained to me that boxing was, at its heart, a martial art. In fact, he told me that even though it was mainly regarded as a sport, it was superior to many martial arts as a system of personal protection. This was primarily because of its simplicity, and how it was taught and practiced.

Boxers are fitter, faster, tougher, and display the ability to think clearly under intense pressure. Many martial arts, despite what they advertise, cannot make this claim.

Over the years, I’ve studied many martial arts alongside of boxing. I’ve known all along that Joe was right about boxing. Lots of amazing boxing coaches know this at some level too, but haven’t really made the connection in their teaching.

What makes me unique is that my individual life experiences have positioned me to enhance boxing training into something that functions as a system to optimize personal fitness, safety, and mental resilience. In other words, exactly what a martial art should do. This is done in a welcoming social environment that emphasizes community, compassion, communication, and teamwork.

These are all qualities that I believe the world needs.

Hopefully, you’ll join us in our journey.
